Steve’s Professional Bio

Steve Vernon, F.S.A., is the president of Rest-of-Life Communications, which he founded after retiring from a 25-year career with global consulting firm Watson Wyatt Worldwide. As vice president at Watson Wyatt, Steve helped Fortune 1000 employers design, manage, and communicate their retirement programs.

While working at the Stanford Center on Longevity from 2013 to 2022, Steve conducted and directed research on retirement income, retirement planning and decision-making, and behavioral economics.

Through his company Rest-of-Life Communications, Steve delivers retirement education campaigns and retirement planning workshops for consumers and advisers. He does not sell investments or insurance, so his services are not influenced by how he is paid. Since 2010, he’s written more than 1,000 online columns on retirement and longevity for CBS MoneyWatch and Forbes.com. He also wrote or co-wrote 19 research reports and articles on retirement income strategies, retirement decision-making, and longevity topics while at the Stanford Center on Longevity.

Personal

Steve and his wife Melinda are in their early 70s, and they’ve applied Steve’s research and strategies to plan their own retirement years.
